Urgent plea to the public in case of missing 21-year-old Christine Wood
For Immediate Release
The Canadian Centre for Child Protection, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO), and the family of Christine Wood are appealing to the public to come forward with any information regarding missing 21-year-old Christine Wood. Christine, a former student of the University of Winnipeg, has been missing since the evening of August 19. Her family is deeply concerned for her safety as it is extremely unusual for her to be out of contact.
“While most parents are preparing to send their children back to school and off to college, this family is desperately searching for their missing girl. They have no idea where their daughter is or if she is safe,” says Christy Dzikowicz, Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s Director of Missing Children Services. “We owe it to Christine and to her family to do all we can to find her and to ensure her safety.”
Christine and her parents were in Winnipeg to accompany a family member to a medical appointment. On August 19, Christine, who was staying with family at a hotel in Winnipeg, went out for the evening. She never returned. Calls and texts to her cell have gone unanswered and no one has heard from her.
“We had so hoped that Christine would be home safe with her family already. We are all really worried for her safety,” said MKO Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson. “Christine is one of too many missing Indigenous women and girls — we can’t just sit back and wait. We all need to come together as a community to help this family, and families like hers who are searching for their loved ones.”
“Our family is begging anyone who knows anything to help us find our girl,” said Christine’s parents, Melinda and George Wood. “We are desperate and need her home. We need to know that she is safe.”
